ABOUT LOREN
Hi, I’m Loren O’Brien, LAMFT. I’m a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s degree from Thomas Jefferson University. I work with children, teens, and young women who are navigating big feelings, family challenges, identity development, and life transitions. My goal is to provide a space where children feel safe expressing themselves, and where young women can reconnect with their inner strength and self-worth.

My Journey to Becoming a Therapist
Growing up, I was a sensitive kid who felt everything deeply. I also grew up around emotionally complicated family dynamics, and I know how confusing and lonely that can feel for a child or teen.
I’m also the sibling of a sister with Down syndrome, which gave me a deep, early understanding of difference, empathy, and what it means to show up for someone in both joyful and challenging moments.
As an adult, I was diagnosed with ADHD—something that helped make sense of the struggles I had with school, organization, and executive functioning for so many years. That experience has deepened my compassion for the often invisible challenges people carry, and the relief that can come with finally having language for your experience.
These early experiences taught me how important it is to have someone safe to talk to—someone who listens without judgment, sees you clearly, and helps you make sense of what’s going on inside. I became a therapist to be that person for others.

Helping People Is My Passion
Being a therapist is incredibly meaningful to me. I love being part of someone’s journey—especially when I get to witness kids build confidence, or see young women begin to trust themselves and their voice for the first time.
I bring warmth, curiosity, and playfulness to my work. Whether I’m helping a child through emotional regulation and behavior challenges or supporting a young adult who’s working through anxiety and family stress, I meet each client exactly where they are.

My Approach
I believe that healing happens through connection. My style is collaborative, relational, and grounded in empathy. I use developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed techniques to help clients feel safe enough to explore their thoughts and feelings—and brave enough to grow.
I support children through play therapy and the attachment relationships they have with their primary caregivers. I believe parents are essential partners in the counseling process and regularly include them in treatment to strengthen family connection, improve co-regulation, and reinforce the emotional growth happening in sessions.
With teens and young women, I provide space to unpack identity, explore relationships, and begin shifting the patterns they may have learned from emotionally immature or high-conflict family environments.

Our Work Together
Sessions with me are all about feeling seen and supported. I’ll take the time to get to know you or your child as a whole person—not just a diagnosis or a set of challenges. Together, we’ll work on building coping tools, growing emotional awareness, and strengthening relationships that matter.
I tailor my work to each person and family, because there’s no one-size-fits-all path to healing. But one thing is always true: when people feel safe, understood, and empowered, incredible things can happen.

As a Therapist, I Embrace the Following Philosophy
I believe that everyone—especially children and young adults—deserve to feel heard, valued, and supported. Sometimes, small shifts in understanding or connection can make a lasting impact. I'm here to help nurture those moments and walk alongside you in the process.
